Indicator or backtesting strategy: what is the difference?

Choose based on what you want to do, not which label sounds more advanced.

An indicator shows information

An indicator helps you read a chart using calculated values, visual levels or signals. TAD’s automatic settings help you start without configuring every input. You still decide what to do with the information.

A strategy simulates rules

A backtesting strategy applies defined entry, exit and sizing rules to historical bars and produces a simulated report. That requires additional execution assumptions and engineering. The current Business package includes backtesting; it is not the same thing as the indicator’s Auto Strategy setting.

Start with your actual task

If you want to understand the display and follow signals, begin with the indicator and starter guide. If you want to evaluate historical rules, learn the testing assumptions before interpreting a strategy report. A simulated strategy report is not a record of live trades.
